A screen saver is not an energy saver. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 75% of all the electricity consumed in the home is standby power used to keep electronics running when those TVs, DVRs, computers, monitors and stereos are "off." The average desktop computer, not including the monitor, consumes from 60 to 250 watts a day. Compared with a machine left on 24/7, a computer that is in use four hours a day and turned off the rest of the time would save you about $70 a year. The carbon impact would be even greater. Shutting it off would reduce the machine's CO2 emissions 83%, to just 63 kg a year

This is a custom font that I found that was designed for Taiwan Tourism Bureau. A font with Asian calligraphy touch. The most interesting part of the design is the animation that was made to show off the idea of the typeface.

Chris Jordan

I have found a very interesting photographer called Chris Jordan. He photo people's garbage! His art shows us how we are trashing our planet in very interesting ways. Interesting yet effective.
Below from "Running the Numbers," Jordan recreates George Seurat's famous painting "Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte" using 106,000 aluminum cans, the number used in the US every thirty seconds...... yes each 30 sec.

Font Monster

I had spent the long weekend to continue designing my font. I have been working on it for almost 9 weeks. It's fun but not easy. Now I really need to come up with a name for my typeface!

portfolio review

Such a great event for graphic design students to attend. In the event I have talked to six designers and creative directors in the graphic design field. I have learn a lot form all the different reviewers. They have gave me many advice and comments on my work, therefor I can see my strength and weakness. The portfolio review also gave me an opportunity to get some freelance works.

As designers we have the ability to create communications and make things function better. Global warming is a big issue for our planet now, therefore we should understand the issue and help people to see how important issue is. I have found a very nicely designed website about what designers can do to help our planet.
